ABOUT US

Hi!

I’m Maycie, founder of Naturally Montana. My husband and I have made our home in Montana, surrounded by family and friends, and the wild beauty Montana offers nearby. I am a full time student midwife, so while I’m not at births or caring for mamas and babies, I’m at home making tallow products or learning more about natural alternatives and herbalism.

Like many others in America, I had been using skincare products that had so  many ingredients and chemicals I couldn’t even pronounce. I started looking into healthier alternatives for myself, and came across beef tallow. After hours of research, I bought some tallow, rendered it and purified it myself, and immediately fell in love with it from the first time I used it. It made my skin feel so soft and moisturized, and my acne/skin redness faded rapidly. I started giving it to my family members and got glowing reviews as well.

My hope is that everyone who is looking for an alternative to traditional skincare would have access to tallow products for their families. The list of the benefits of beef tallow is a mile long, safe for all ages, and fantastic for any sort of skin issues you might be hoping to resolve!

Naturally Montana Tallow
FAQs
  • How do you render and purify the tallow so that it is clean enough for skincare?
The rendering process: When I first receive the beef suet directly from the rancher, I chop it up, and allow it to melt down in the oven at around 220 degrees fahrenheit. This is the gentlest rendering process possible, to maintain all nutrients, while at the same time removing odor and impurities from the tallow. After the initial render, I then melt it down with water and salt to purify it. After this, I pour it into jars and store it in a cool, dark place until I am ready to use it!
  • What is tallow and why would I want to use it?
Tallow is rendered fat from animals that graze on grass. Tallow closely resembles our own skin's sebum and is one of the most nutrient-dense product we could use on our skin, the body's largest organ. It's deeply nourishing for a wide variety of skin concerns.
  • Will tallow make my skin greasy?
No. Oily skin is skin in desperate need of nutrients. Tallow, when used sparingly, will provide your skin with those nutrients. If you're feeling greasy/oily after application, use a smaller amount.
  • Where is your tallow sourced from?
I get my tallow from a local montana rancher. The tallow is from 100% grass fed and finished, organic raised animals, making some of the cleanest, nutrient dense tallow around.
  • What is the refund policy?
Refunds are currently not offered. If you have a problem with your order, please email us directly at naturallymontanatallow@gmail.com
  • Are tallow products safe for children?
Yes! All products are created and sourced with the most sensitive skin in mind. Product-specific information is available on each product's link.
  • What happens if my tallow products freeze or melt?
Frozen tallow will return to its original state after sitting at room temp for a few hours. Tallow is temperature-sensitive with a melting point of 95*. We recommend tracking your shipment to ensure it gets inside as soon as possible.Tallow balms will easily re-solidify in the fridge or at room temperature. Whipped tallow, when melted, will not return to its whipped state. But! If your whipped tallow does melt, the product is still usable and effective. If you’d like to whip it again, put the product into a bowl, and whip on high with a hand mixer for a few minutes. If you have concerns about melting, try to order your items when the climate is mild.
